How it shows up on the storefront
Section titled “How it shows up on the storefront”The add-on appears above the total as a checkbox (or required indicator). The customer sees the per-day rate and can toggle it on / off.
When toggled on:
- Subtotal → rental amount (unchanged)
- Add-ons → shows
+$20(for a 4-day rental at $5/day) - Total → rental + add-ons
In the cart
Section titled “In the cart”The add-on is included in the line-item property Selected add-ons:
Damage insurance (qty 1) · $20And in the cart total — no extra line is created. This keeps the cart tidy.
On the order
Section titled “On the order”Same — visible under the order’s line-item properties. You can see at-a-glance which orders opted in to insurance.
Required insurance
Section titled “Required insurance”If you need every customer to carry insurance, set Required. The add-on is always active, can’t be unchecked by the customer, and the total includes it by default.
Multiple insurance tiers
Section titled “Multiple insurance tiers”Create multiple add-ons and set Max quantity to 1 on each (so they act like radio buttons). Label clearly: “Basic insurance ($3/day)”, “Premium insurance ($8/day)”.
Alternative: keep it simple. Most rental shops find a single optional insurance product converts best.
