Rental bundles with shared stock
Rental bundles let a merchant sell a complete kit while reserving its physical components from the same Rentshelf stock used for individual rentals. For example, a camera kit can include one camera body, one lens and one light. A booking for the kit reduces availability of those items for overlapping individual bookings, and the reverse is also true.
Bundles are available on Starter and Growth. The bundle itself is a dedicated Shopify product with its own rental price; the linked components describe the physical items and quantity included in one kit.
Configure a bundle
Section titled “Configure a bundle”- Create the kit as a Shopify product and link it in Rentshelf → Products. Use a dedicated product with no existing bookings. A product already used as a component in another bundle cannot be converted into the parent kit.
- Choose Create rental bundle in the Products page and open the eligible kit product.
- In Bundle contents, add active individual rental products. Choose a stock variant when the component uses variant-level stock, and set the number of units included in one kit. Save the product settings.
- Set and review the kit’s rental price and dates, then test the storefront quote, cart and resulting booking. Compare kit availability with overlapping individual component bookings.
The parent kit cannot use timed appointments, per-variant stock or Buy outright. A component cannot itself be a bundle or a timed appointment. Bundles currently share one inventory pool: remove location-specific stock allocations from the kit and its components before configuring one. A kit can contain up to 20 component rows; each row needs a quantity from 1 to 1,000.
Availability and returns
Section titled “Availability and returns”Rentshelf checks each component against its own stock, booked dates and buffers. The lowest available component count limits how many complete kits can be rented. A kit booking records its component selection so later edits to the product setup do not silently redefine that existing booking.
On return, staff can record the quantity returned for each component. The bundle booking reaches Returned when all included component units have been recorded as returned. Review missing or damaged items separately before returning them to usable stock.
Test a bundle alongside an individual rental of a shared component on overlapping dates before offering it to customers. If a kit has zero availability, inspect each component’s stock, existing bookings and buffers; increasing the parent product’s Shopify inventory alone will not create more physical component capacity. See variant rental stock and returns workflow for related checks.
